Is a picture of breast milk considered adult content?[edit]

    See title 2607:FEA8:28E1:8800:21B8:717C:4077:C8CC (talk) 00:42, 12 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Considered adult content for what purpose? Breast milk has several. Depending on context, a picture of breast milk can certainly be seen as unnecessary. WP includes several pictures that can be considered "adult content". Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 06:21, 12 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
    I would suggest reading WP:CENSOR, I think that should awnser whatever your implicit question is. -- D'n'B-t -- 06:38, 12 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I don't at all see how an image of a cup of a substance identified as breast milk is "adult content"(perhaps the OP could explain), and even if it were, Wikipedia is not censored. As to whether an image is necessary, that's another issue that depends on context. It's certainly reasonable on the breast milk article. 331dot (talk) 12:42, 12 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
IP user, there are ways to avoid seeing images that may offend you; you can install software/adjust your settings on your end to block them, or you can take steps when using Wikipedia(though those require an account, see WP:NOSEE). 331dot (talk) 12:45, 12 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
And the content of this hypothetical cup can certainly be argued not to be "adult content". Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 14:22, 12 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Question on notability (crossposted from here, just in case)[edit]

When did gender/sexuality suddenly become such a notable trait to the point where being a certain gender/sexuality makes you more notable than someone of a different gender/sexuality? Especially if it's not the typical male/female thing you usually get. Like, maybe I don't get it 'cause I'm a straight white dude who's never been attacked for something like that but like big whoop? Why should anyone, regardless of where you stand on the issue, care THAT much over who someone decides to fuck? Like it just seems to me both sides, gender nonconforming types and the intolerant people railing against them need to take a step back and wonder if this is REALLY something to get THAT worked up over. Live your life, fuck whomever you wanna fuck and don't make it other people's problems, simple.

Video games with the same title, branding, etc.[edit]

There are a lot of video games (particularly from the 90s and 2000s) where two video games exist with the same title, branding, cover art, and everything-- but with different developers, on different platforms. A notable example is Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell: Double Agent, a less notable one being Need for Speed: Undercover.

However, there doesn't seem to be a consensus on what should be done when these games are extremely different from one another. This happens most frequently with handheld games, where the versions across systems share practically nothing beyond top-level genre and theme. If a game exists on Game Boy Advance or Nintendo DS as well as home consoles, those two games likely have next to nothing in common.

I'd like to ask for guidance as to when a game should be separated into its own article, and when it should be included as a sub-section within a top-level article. While this may seem like it has a blanket answer, I do not believe it does, and I ask that you read my examples for my explanation of why. I'd appreciate rationale so I can apply these to future articles and edits. If I should not be separating these games into their own articles, I would like advice on how to better organize information about them in existing ones, as existing articles do this in many different ways and almost always end up mixing the information in with the main article body, leaving it hard to research specifically these other versions.

    Here are four examples:

Road Rash (Game Boy Color) came out in 2000 and uses the branding and theme of Road Rash (1994 video game) but the content is most similar to Road Rash II. The confusing part here is that it came out in 2000, shares a name with the 1994 game as well as Road Rash (1991 video game) but uses the content of neither. At present, the GBC version is described inline on the Road Rash II page, but little information is given and there is no reference to its relationship with the 1994 game. The 1994 game's article is already covering five other versions that share little with the GBC version, and I am concerned that introducing the GBC version into the mix would make for an overly long article that veers a bit off topic, while creating a nightmare in the Reception section. I believe Road Rash (GBC, 2000) should have its own article.

Need for Speed: Porsche Unleashed is a 2000 racing game for PlayStation and Windows. The PS1 and PC versions are wholly different videogames that share a concept and soundtrack but little else. There is also a 2004 Game Boy Advance game by the same name, which is a translation of the PC version to the handheld. It is currently only mentioned in the article's infobox. I believe these three versions of the game should share an article.

However, in stark contrast to Porsche Unleashed, later Need for Speed games exist across multiple handhelds with completely different developers. Need for Speed: ProStreet was available on home consoles as well as Nintendo DS and PlayStation Portable. The home console versions were developed by EA Black Box, while the DS and PSP games were each handed off to separate B-Teams that made completely different games. I am torn on whether these justify their own articles, but they do not make sense structurally within the existing article.

Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six: Rogue Spear is a multiplatform tactical shooter. There are significant differences between the PlayStation version and the others, but they are minor enough for WIkipedia's purposes that the PS1 version can coexist with the Dreamcast, PC and Mac ones. However, there is also a Game Boy Advance port. It is not mentioned in the body of the article at all and is a top-down game with wholly different content. It is a completely different game from the others, and I feel it warrants its own article. Similar conundrums exist for the Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell games on GBA, which are side-scrolling action games.

Please let me know how I should proceed. I am going to begin working on a draft of the Game Boy Color version of Road Rash.

Request for Assistance with Account Deletion[edit]

Hello, I’m trying to delete my Wikipedia account but haven’t been able to find the necessary steps on the Help pages. Could someone please assist me with this? I’ve checked the Username policy and Help pages, but I couldn’t find any information on account deletion. Any guidance on how to proceed would be greatly appreciated. Thank you. Knowledgeseeker1937 (talk) 00:03, 13 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

There is no means of deleting an account, as legally all edits must be attributable to someone. You may just stop using and abandon your account. A vanishing may also be an option, see WP:VANISH. 331dot (talk) 00:06, 13 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
    Please don't attempt the option of WP:VANISH, Knowledgeseeker1937. My Page - Karamjeet K Dhillon[edit]

    How to reopen closed AfD[edit]

This might be the wrong place to go to ask an adminstrative help question. I closed an AfD as keep and have been asked to reopen it. In 16 years as an admin, I've never previously been convinced to reopen one. However, almost all of the commenters on the AfD (which I closed on May 7) have turned out to be socks. It seems appropriate to reopen the AfD as requested. What is the proper procedure for that? I have hunted. Apparently I'm blind because I can't find it. I do not want to blunder in and guess what's the right way. Doczilla Ohhhhhh, no! 18:28, 13 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

    How to add suggested languages[edit]

When I go to the top of the page and try to go to the same page on another Wikipedia, the only "suggested langauges" I get are Croatian and Italian. How do I add or remove those languages? I don't understand how to use the "add languages" button. When an article has pages in Bosnian or Serbian or Slovenian or even German or French I have to scroll all the way down the list to see them. The minimal discussion on the talk page hasn't been productive because one editor isn't receptive. I have been unable to post a "Request dispute resolution" for some technical reason.

I used an unsuitable template for warning a user today, see: User talk:Hob Gadling#May 2024. He was very harsh and said, "You are not welcome on my talk page. Please refrain from editing it in the future." Is someone allowed to ban you from their talk page? What if I have any legitimate questions for that editor in the future? It scared me, and I doubt I can sleep well tonight. I really didn't mean to annoy or offend that editor. I used that template because it looked more gentle and less harsh than the other template. I'm hoping that Hob Gadling sees your apology here and your good intentions- but yes, if an editor asks you to refrain from using their user talk page, it should generally be respected. You can use article talk pages to ask questions about edits. 331dot (talk) 12:43, 14 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
(edit conflict) "Harsh"? I don't see it - I thought Hob Gadling was quite restrained, considering. But no, people can't actually ban you from their page, but you are strongly recommended to respect a request to stay away, and only post there if you must — for example, if you take somebody to WP:ANI, you must alert them to that fact. As for the template you used looking more gentle, I suggest you don't use any template without actually reading its text first. If you didn't notice the problems I have pointed out (on your talkpage), I'm not sure you did read it with any care, this time. You didn't write the template, but if you post it, you take responsibility for what it says. Bishonen | tålk 12:49, 14 May 2024 (UTC).[reply]

The subject, photographer, or uploader of an image may request that it be removed from Commons. The reasons for removal may include such things as "It causes embarrassment" or "It was published without my consent", etc. Generally, images are not removed simply because the subject does not like them, but administrators are normally sympathetic to removal requests if good reasons can be given. In any case you may address a removal request through the normal public review process of a deletion request. If discretion is required, a deletion request explaining this may also be sent privately through Commons:Contact us/Problems.

Categories - Italicized and referring to a section within an article[edit]

I am trying to add to a category, a fictional character who does not have their own article. But I have seen that you can link the article with said character in, and on the category page it comes up in italics. For example in the Category:Fictional surfers there is David Kawena who doesn't have his own article but is listed in this category and when you click on it, you are directed to List of Lilo & Stitch characters#David Kawena. However, what is puzzling for me is that in the category section of this article, Category:Fictional surfers does not appear. My question is how do I add a TV series article to a category page that appears as the name of the character in italics, but redirects to the character section within that article? PitterPatter533 (talk) 18:30, 14 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

David Kawena is a redirect page. To see the page itself, you can click on the link, scroll to the top of the page and click on the link in Redirected from David Kawena. Wikipedia:Redirect explains how to create a redirect, target it to a section of an article and add it to a category. TSventon (talk) 18:48, 14 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I see, thank you. If I go to the David Kawena redirect page (https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=David_Kawena&redirect=no though, List of Lilo & Stitch characters does not appear as one of the categories. So I'm curious as to how it got there. PitterPatter533 (talk) 14:49, 15 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
PitterPatter533 the link to List of Lilo & Stitch characters#David Kawena is towards the top of the page, above the Template:Redirect category shell, while the categories are at the bottom, if that helps. TSventon (talk) 15:00, 15 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Eagledj: You are not autopatrolled so indexing of your article creations is not allowed automatically. Mike means you look like a good candidate if you apply. See WP:Autopatrolled#Obtaining the right. If the creator is not autopatrolled then it's unpredictable when or if an article will be reviewed by a user with the required right to allow indexing before 90 days. At top of page histories you can click "View logs for this page" to see that Belle Meade Gun Club was reviewed yesterday (today in some time zones) while Blades Brown (golfer) was reviewed 13 May. You can also use your browser to search the html source for "noindex". Neither article has it now but Belle Meade Gun Club had it when you first posted. It was deleted because of the PROD tag on it. Another editor tagged it per the concerns above and after seven days of initiation, it'll be deleted. Do read the rationale above, "Non-notable person who fails to meet WP:GNG. Only...". Safari ScribeEdits! Talk! 22:37, 14 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
That article made no plausible claim of notability, MagicalPrince863. Cullen328 (talk) 00:08, 15 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

How can Joal Stanfield be notable MagicalPrince863 (talk) 00:29, 15 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

MagicalPrince863, one or more editors would have to create Draft:Joal Stanfield, citing reliable sources (plural) to demonstrate that he is "notable" as defined by and for Wikipedia. -- Hoary (talk) 01:09, 15 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
MagicalPrince863, no amount of editing can create notability where it does not exist. He was a school teacher and high school tennis coach who sadly died at 35. According to WP:NPERSON, For people, the person who is the topic of a biographical article should be "worthy of notice" or "note"—that is, "remarkable" or "significant, interesting, or unusual enough to deserve attention or to be recorded" within Wikipedia as a written account of that person's life. This person was not a university professor with major research accomplishments. This person did not coach world class tennis players. His death, though tragic for his family and friends, was not unique or highly unusual. Cullen328 (talk) 01:29, 15 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

    How do I delete a picture?[edit]

How do i delete a picture i posted weather was yesterday or a year ago from being in the system so i can repost it on another page bc showing whole url now i dont wanna mess with that i wanna just post for one article page im making thank you Googoo85 (talk) 03:59, 15 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Googoo85 I can find no files uploaded by you here. They are likely to be on Wikimedia Commons, which is the place for you to ask for help on this matter 🇺🇦 FiddleTimtrent FaddleTalk to me 🇺🇦 06:04, 15 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Googoo85 Your global contributions show several uploads to Commons, where we store images. Inserting these pictures into articles (or drafts) involves adding the correct wikitext. See Help:Pictures for how to do that. Mike Turnbull (talk) 13:56, 15 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Why is this table considered a lint error?[edit]

I saw "Multiline table in list" in the page information when the following wikitext was added to the page:

    * <table><tr><td><math>y = a x + b</math></td></tr></table>

The whole HTML table was on the same line. I'm not sure the reason for it. -- Justin545 (talk) 07:43, 15 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I'd guess because the Mediawiki preprocessor interprets whatever is to the right of a line-initial asterisk as an attempt at a list item (<li>Like this</li>). But AFAIK (X)HTML doesn't let you put block entities within list items. Additionally, a single-cell table is a somewhat bizarre notion. What is your semantic/layout goal here? -- Hoary (talk) 08:35, 15 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I was trying to improve {{NumBlk}} and encountered the lint error. So I tried to simplify the template gradually while preserving the lint error. The wikitext in this question is the simplest one I could get. That’s why a trivial, single-cell table exists. (there was other cells in the table before) The lint error is called "Multiline table in list", but obviously it's a single-line table in my case. ...could it be considered a bug of the Linter extension or the preprocessor you've mentioned ?
My goal is to enable prepending asterisk to {{NumBlk}} calls without causing any errors, such as:
    * {{NumBlk||<math>y = a x + b</math>|Eq. 3}}

The bullet in front of the NumBlk seems disappeared in the current version. -- Justin545 (talk) 11:04, 15 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I'd be slightly worried about putting a > in a table cell, and would replace it by the html entity >. That's probably not the problem, but easy to try. Maproom (talk) 10:06, 15 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
    I've modified the wikitext. -- Justin545 (talk) 11:09, 15 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Justin545 {{Numbered block}} has a large section on warnings about placing the template in tables. It also has other information about using the template within lists. In particular, Template:Numbered block § Unordered list contains examples using CSS. Other templates such as {{bulleted list}} might be used to simplify the HTML. Thank you for the {{bulleted list}} solution. Fixing the potential bug of the extension or preprocessor may be too aggressive to fulfil within a short period of time. Maybe I should take a look at how to integrate {{bulleted list}} into {{Numbered block}}'s doc to avoid using too much HTML/CSS. -- Justin545 (talk) 12:15, 15 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Justin545: Tables are for presenting data in rows and columns (MOS:TABLES). I can't work out why five characters should need to be presented in a single-celled table. What are you wanting to achieve? Bazza 7 (talk) 11:02, 15 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

    AI-generated images[edit]

I need some advice on use of AI images. The articles David Copperfield and Great Expectations have recently had images added (and removed) which have been generated using AI, and are classed as 'own work' by the author. See those articles' talk pages. I have a personal objection to them on aesthetic grounds, but WP policies do not seem to consider that as a reason to object. However, a more important point is whether WP has policies which are keeping up with AI. In particular, is an editor now permitted to add their own original AI-generated art? Original text is not permitted, since it is usually classified as original research. The only policies I can find which are relevant are MOS:PERTINENCE, WP:IMGCONTENT,and WP:Image use policy, which do not help much.

Are there policies I have missed? Is there a discussion or a working group thinking about this? Without a policy, it seems WP could rapidly be flooded with original, AI-generated images, with no grounds to object. Masato.harada (talk) 09:39, 15 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Masato.harada there is a similar question at Wikipedia talk:Image use policy#AI generated images, with a link to WP:WPAIC, where there is another related conversation, Wikipedia talk:WikiProject AI Cleanup#Wikipedia policy on AI generated images. TSventon (talk) 10:15, 15 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I believe that there's a stronger objection than any mentioned above to the recent additions to the Dickens articles. That is that they're works of fiction, made up by the creator and his AI. This is an encyclopedia, not a place for publishing works of fiction. Pictures created during Dickens' lifetime and with his approval qualify as part of his work; pictures created more than a century later don't. Maproom (talk) 15:21, 15 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
It is also worth noting that copyright law concerning AI-generated artwork is far from clear, may vary from one jurisdiction to another, and seems to be dependent at least in part on the copyright status of data the AI was trained on. It is entirely possible for AI to generate derivative works in breach of copyright. Uploading AI-generated images while describing them simply as 'own work' also seems to be contrary to Commons good practice, at absolute minimum. Coverage of person recently deceased through hunger strike action (currently hypothetical)[edit]

I am currently working on an article concerning a climate hunger strike in Berlin, Germany, with five strikers at present. First a disclaimer: I am not involved in the hunger strike, any associated organizations, the planning of events, media and social media liaison, those participating, or anything else related — besides being an observer with a camera and some language skills who happens to live in Berlin. I have nonetheless chatted to strike participants and organizers when taking photographs and video, mostly to seek their permissions for publication.

My question is hypothetical at this juncture. Are there Wikipedia policies about appropriate editing in the event that one of the hunger strikers does succumb to their self‑starvation? Not something I would ever hope to happen, but equally, quite possible going forward. Thanks in advance for any guidance. RobbieIanMorrison (talk) 18:42, 15 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
